Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Montrose Cunningham. I’m a writer, musician, student (working on my MS in Marketing) and a truly domesticated family man. I’m 46 and my wife is 43…we both work, plus I’m in school…meanwhile, we’ve got two daughters, a 6 year old and a 1 year old! Yeah, it’s crazy! I mean really, who does that at our age? Among the many on my “things my father told me to do, that I should have done” list, one of them was to “don’t wait too long after you get married to have children. The older you get, the less energy you’ll have…and you’re gonna need the energy.” Man was he right! (He also told me to get my Masters right after I got my bachelors degree…years ago!) My oldest daughter wakes up going 100mph and she’s pretty much like that all day. My youngest well, she’s one year old so there you go. On occasion I believe she thinks to herself “you know what, I think I’m gonna just stay up all night…um, ’til about 2 or 3 a.m. Just to keep things interesting…and to ensure you get no rest at all.” But honestly, I’m loving it! Everyday is an adventure, I’ve worked as a professional musician and compared to fatherhood, playing clubs and traveling is a walk in the park! Also, I’ve turned into such a stereotype that I sicken myself. All the irritating things about other parents that used to get on my nerves when I was single (and before I had kids) I do all that stuff…every other sentence that comes out of my mouth ends up being about my children…you wanna’ see pictures of my kids, I’ve got over a thousand on my phone for you to check out and the kicker is how I miss my children. My wife was out of town for a few days and the kids were at my mother-in-law’s house and after about a day or so, I missed my family! What the crap? I could have been out partying (well I did a little socializing the first night…it was the NBA playoffs) but most of the time I was at home…working on a blog about being a father. I look in the mirror and ask “who are you and what happened to the party animal, musician that used to occupy your body?” So anyway, this will be a collection of my thoughts, reflections, crazy quotes from my child and pretty much observations from a father who really enjoys being a Dad! (But in order to keep up my rock star image, let’s just keep that between us!)
